Happy Monday, Back’nGroovers! I know you are waiting for me to write about my past weekend in a cabin. It is the obvious….. Well, I am going to write about it a bit except in the unexpected way. We had a great time – our family for 2 days in a cabin at the overnight camp where my boys attend.
When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade (original quote by someone’s grandma?) ……
……An absolute favorite saying of mine. I have always tried to apply these words to my life no matter whether it was something little or big. When the boys were infants, and I had a LONG day that did not allow me to shower or eat a whole meal or make a phone call, I took pleasure in a hot bubble-bath after I got the boys to sleep. When my grandmother died, I survived devastation when a few days later, I found out she would have a namesake when I discovered I was pregnant. Today, I was really going back and forth with what I should write on the blog, AND then my day changed because my husband forgot to send my son to school with a lunch (on the last day of school).
What the hell is going with the Braduct, you are probably asking? I have not written about the Braduct in a long while and this has been intentional – I have been in a regrouping phase of Research and Development. Believe me, I did not want to deny any of you information or updates, I just needed time to regroup on the arduous path in front me. You all know that I am extremely impatient and, therefore, set ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS timelines for myself. After a bit of searching and examining what I was really trying to do, I am now able to proceed forward with the R&D phase.
Just to bring all of you up to speed…..last year, I had an inkling of an idea for a bra-related product. I began the VERY LONG journey of nurturing this idea from the confines of my brain to the Women of America. Along the way, my ten-year old son (who blushes endlessly when he hears the word bra) exclaimed that I was not working on a bra-related product but rather a BRADUCT. The term Braduct was born after this, and although this is not the official product name, we now affectionately refer to the item as a Braduct.
I really struggled with how to purposely represent Mother’s Day here at Back’NGrooveMom. I thought to make a video (even made a quickie that turned out terrible and ended in the virtual trash can); then, I was going to write about my mom (who we already know is awesome and truly getting her back in the groove); there was a brief moment that I considered a little post on my new reading glasses and did they make me an old mom?; next, I thought about you, all my great mom readers and how I could honor you; finally, I went to yoga to clear my head…..AND, when I left class, I learned of a terrible tragedy.
I have been wanting to write this post for sometime….it is a post that I like to think of “Half-Ass is OK.” What does that mean? “Half-Ass” is an expression that a good friend of mine who should remain nameless encourages me to subscribe to related to things that do not really matter in the whole scheme of life. Take for example, making the beds. Over the last year or so, I have been encouraging my boys to make their own beds in the morning, and then after they would leave their room….I would sneak into their room and remake the bed a little more neatly. GUILTY! Not only is this a huge waste of my time, but really “Who cares?” Certainly my boys do not care, and if you visit me – are you really going to inspect my boys’ room?
Last week, I revealed my ups and downs of going from stay-at-home mom to woman entrepreneur. Although mostly subtle, there are definite differences in life before and after Back’NGrooveMom. One exercise that I suggest to budding mompreneurs (whether they were SAHM’s or in a different job) is to make a list of what they could and could not surrender from life as they knew it.
For me, and something I think all moms should consider, exercise is not something that I could take out of my schedule. I could give up balling socks or even cooking dinner every night (my boys LOVE Subway), but exercise was key to my overall performance and health. I know that exercise is time-consuming and hard to fit in, but check out my video on ways to make sure you fit exercise in your busy life!
Yesterday was Sunday and the weather was GORGEOUS! The whole family exercised – walked, rode bikes, and played basketball in the yard – what a difference it made (even with the dogs). By evening, all of us felt so great AND I know that we will get a fabulous night’s sleep which will lead to an extremely productive tomorrow!
