What is all this business with being back ‘n the groove anyway? What does it all mean? As women, as moms, & as spouses/partners, how do we define a space for us? How do we know when that space is in our groove? Sometimes, as moms, we spend too long in one space, and we need to find our groove in a new space – whatever that is…it is a new realm where we feel great…maybe even groovy.
Whether we work outside the home, inside the home, or stay-at-home, the life cycle is continually on the move for moms. We are masters of multi-tasking and our skill-set is constantly being refined and updated NO matter what we do professionally or personally. I remember a few years ago, over cupcakes and coffee, a good friend told me she was going back to work part-time. It was the right time for her and she discovered her groove excellently! I always admire how she makes it all happen….kids, husband, work, fitness, time for friends. A constant reminder to me and all of us that life is fluid in nature, and with each phase, we redefine the groove.
What the hell is going with the Braduct, you are probably asking? I have not written about the Braduct in a long while and this has been intentional – I have been in a regrouping phase of Research and Development. Believe me, I did not want to deny any of you information or updates, I just needed time to regroup on the arduous path in front me. You all know that I am extremely impatient and, therefore, set ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS timelines for myself. After a bit of searching and examining what I was really trying to do, I am now able to proceed forward with the R&D phase.
Just to bring all of you up to speed…..last year, I had an inkling of an idea for a bra-related product. I began the VERY LONG journey of nurturing this idea from the confines of my brain to the Women of America. Along the way, my ten-year old son (who blushes endlessly when he hears the word bra) exclaimed that I was not working on a bra-related product but rather a BRADUCT. The term Braduct was born after this, and although this is not the official product name, we now affectionately refer to the item as a Braduct.
**Warning — Bitch Alert! (written late last night)
This afternoon I took a little “me” break, and I got a pedicure. It was such a nice hour: Quiet, Calm, Relaxing, and a Beautiful Outcome to boot. After that, it was pretty much a downward spiral. The rain was pouring down at school pick-up, and my son came out to the car and informed me that he hit his head on the concrete at recess. That was just the beginning. There was homework, dogs to feed, snacks flying everywhere, a report about some shenanigans at school, and my younger son realizing that he misplaced his itouch.
At this point, we are all in a frenzy looking for the itouch, talking about behavior expectations at school, trying to reach our cousin who is a pediatrician on the head smacking the concrete, and making our way through the 2nd grade spelling list. This is when announcing that everyone was putting on their pj’s, having dinner, and waiting for bedtime was appropriate. BUT, noooooooo…..I promised the boys that we would go see our local high school basketball team in round 2 of the state playoffs (45 minutes each way from our house).
Last week I put myself on video asking for mompreneur questions….thanks to everyone for watching me on the big screen (ugh) and commenting. I had one hell of a roller coaster week, and I thought that I would incorporate some of that into the answers. So, you want to be a mompreneur? – Here you go!
When I posted the video last Monday, there was no school for President’s Day. This was an expected day off, and I was planning on being with the boys. In fact, they each had a friend join us and we went to a movie fundraiser sponsored by a local kid. We even managed to sneak in a game of Monopoly,
and then it started to SNOW! I would say that this was where the roller coaster ride started. We woke up on Tuesday morning to 8 inches of snow and of course, NO SCHOOL!
I have not recorded a Bckngruv-video in a while, so I thought that I would start this week off with one. This past week and the ones coming up, are what I call the “down and dirty” part of being a mompreneur. Nothing glamorous just a lot of meetings, research, phone calls, and general business planning. I share some of these details with you in the video, and propose an opportunity for us to share together — check it out!
editor’s note: still working out all the technical difficulties and not saying “so” every other sentence, but all in all – better than last vlog.
At the end of 2010, many of my fellow women bloggers wrote fabulous bucket lists of what they wanted to do in the upcoming year. I was not that organized at the end of the year, and I was trying to avoid writing about new years resolutions in general. I did think about 2011 in terms of what I wanted to do in abundance, but now I have my bucket list!
On the previously mentioned lists, I added what I wanted to do in the comment section on several. At the top of my wish list for 2011 was taking my mom to Vegas. With so much going on, why would this be at the top of my list? Well, you have to read my list to find out!

Have you ever been so excited that you cannot even get the words out? I am! I am not suffering from writer’s block, but rather an overflow of what wants to come out of my brain…A little crazy!! I always have A LOT to say about everything, but this time, I cannot organize the thoughts to create a blog. I considered shooting a quick video, but then decided that could become a long video of me rambling and rambling and rambling. Obviously, that would not be very EFFECTIVE. So, I am trying to organize the blog this morning, but I cannot say what time I will finish……I am “Bra-zilla” gone mad! (thanks again to a friend for yet another bra related nickname).
Time – 10:30 a.m.
I know that many of you have been waiting for the big reveal of the prototype, and I just wanted to bring you up to speed. I have had so many comments & questions: What are you doing playing with bras all the time?; Are you making a bra?; I wear a 36C; I wear an A cup; What is a “braduct?”; Can I See your prototype? So, here you go with some answers. Backngroovemom is working hard behind the scenes on lingerie-related products. At the moment, I am focusing on a bra related item. That is all I can say for now, but very soon our bra-related products will be available for test marketing! Who knows? I may call on YOU to test market.
This week also involved a quick shopping trip to Victoria’s Secret. We needed a few size B bras for “prototype playtime.” I took advantage of the moment to pick up a few items for myself. I have to put a little plug in for the new Incredible Racerback Demi Bra by V.S. I figured since I have been spending so much time in the company of bras, I would occasionally give a quick review. The Incredible Racer Back is a new style by V.S., and incredibly smooth. It is perfect for under a tight fighting shirt because it shapes smoothly without creating any lines. I have tried the Incredible Bra out, and it is now Backngroovemom- Recommended.
Which brings me back to the Backngroovemom “Braduct”…..Braduct evolved out of a conversation with my 10-year-old (JB) about my upcoming product. Yes, he did sign a non-disclosure, and we have not dared share any information with my 7-year-old (BB). If you know BB, you know that he cannot keep his lips zipped on anything. However, JB expertly identified that Backngroovemom was not creating a product, but rather a Braduct. Braduct is a very important piece of our marketing!
@backngroovemom just met a guy that I never met before at a coffee place in polish hill to discuss my bra project – good thing I am #uninhibited
For some reason…in the last 2 weeks, I have now broadened my adventure to 2 projects….
I have been distracted for a few days by a website based project that I have been investigating (details to remain vague). Today, I had to get back on track with my bra project (details still to remain vague). My 9 year old has been required to sign a non-disclosure after discussing the idea. He now affectionately calls my bra related product a “braduct”. Maybe I should hire him for marketing?
Anyway, as a woman entrepreneur, I think that it is important to be uninhibited? Why? There is no room for blushing when trying to start a company. So, today I met an artist to discuss bra related prototypes in a local artist area at a coffee shop that looked like a bar from the outside.
I skipped the blushing, got right down to business, and hope that I have found the guy to make my prototype! And, I did before having to go pick up my kids from school…even better!
just a short little thought for today.
